Why do we need waste data?

3 31, 2016

To achieve the aim of creating a standardised and valuable data set there needs to be a concerted effort to ensure there is value for all stakeholders in the waste management process. This needs to go beyond compliance based reporting which is often viewed as onerous and of limited value for those tasked with providing data. Waste data is collected to allow for a number of activities:

  • To meet local, national and international reporting obligations
  • Support compliance activities
  • Monitor minimisation strategies
  • Control treatment and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Monitor facilities for public and social planning
  • Tactical planning for waste enterprises
